How serverless pricing works

Serverless pricing is typically based on two main factors:

  • Number of requests—each function invocation incurs a small charge
  • Compute time—measured in GB-seconds (memory allocated × execution duration)

All major providers offer free tiers, making serverless cost-effective for small to medium workloads. At scale, differences in pricing models can materially affect the bill.

Key considerations

  • Cold starts—initial invocation latency varies by provider and runtime
  • Regional pricing—costs may vary by deployment region
  • Additional services—API Gateway, storage, and networking add to total cost
  • Reserved concurrency—some providers charge for guaranteed capacity
